The longer your carpet lasts... the less it costs. Research supports the claim that implementing a carpet care program in your facility can double the life of carpet and in the end save you money.
How often then should carpet be cleaned? This depends on the foot traffic in your facility, the amount of soil being tracked in from the outside, and seasonal weather conditions. The general rule is that if your carpet looks dirty, you’ve waited too long. Therefore, facilities should develop a planned maintenance schedule that defines a proper program for preventative and restorative cleaning.
Preventative Maintenance
Soil particles have over 25 different cutting edges. When not maintained, these gritty, sharpened particles grind against the fibers and wear out your carpet. It is necessary then to maintain a proper cleaning schedule to help protect your carpet from damage caused by abrasive soil and spills. Preventative Maintenance consists of power washing entry ways, properly maintained walk-off mats, vacuuming, and spot removal.
Eastern Iowa Carpet Care will work with you to develop a maintenance program that works to keep the soil out of your building, easing the burden on your janitorial staff, and reducing the frequency needed for deep pile restorative cleaning.
Restorative Maintenance
Even when preventative maintenance is performed properly, embedded grit and soil still reach the base of the carpet fibers over time. The only effective method to remove this soil is through deep, hot water extraction.
Our 5-step restorative maintenance plan:
STEP 1: Dry Soil Removal – We utilize an upright “pile lifting” vacuum cleaner to remove dry particulate soil from the carpet that would otherwise become heavier when wet and difficult to remove during extraction.
STEP 2: Pre-Conditioning – A topical chemical agent is sprayed on your carpet and agitated to separate soil from fiber surfaces and suspend them until extraction.
STEP 3: Hot Water Extraction – Suspended soil is flushed from the carpet using super heated water along with a neutralizing spray and then recovered into a holding tank for disposal.
STEP 4: *Carpet Protectant - A topical spray is applied to the carpet that forms a powerful, invisible shield around each fiber to keep dirt, dust, and liquids from lodging within the carpet.
STEP 5: Drying – Air movers are used to assist in speed drying and returning your carpet back to a useable state.
